After the visual treat showcased in “Captain America: Civil War,” Marvel fans are eagerly looking forward to the next superhero movie based on their favourite comic book characters — “X-Men: Apocalypse.”

According to Collider, producer Simon Kinberg had earlier stated that “Apocalypse” will complete a trilogy that began with the “X-Men: First Class” of 2011 and continued with “X-Men: Day of Future Past” (2014).

However, as reported by Comic Book, director Bryan Singer has now hinted that “Apocalypse” won’t be the end of the “X-Men” movies. Much to the delight of the fans, Singer said that “Apocalypse” is “not the end of a trilogy.”

In an interview with Fandango, Singer explained that “Apocalypse” is actually “an-inbetweenquel.”

“It’s actually much bigger than that, the climax of six movies, including X-Men 1, 2, and 3. It harks upon all of those movies, and because it’s ultimately about the formation of the X-Men, it’s the beginning of endless possibilities with these characters.”

Talking about the time gap between all the movies of the trilogy, Singer told Fandango: “That was something Simon [Kinberg] and I discussed a long time ago, all the way back to when I first pitched the studio on ‘First Class’ — that they do each movie in 10-year increments. It’s a nice way for the audience to kind of keep track of the time-line, and it’s fun to play in these different eras. So that’s a good starting point.”

Since Singer has stated that there has been a 10-year jump with each new instalment in the “First Class” trilogy, “Apocalypse” might have a 1990s setting to it as it will be set 10 years apart from the last film in the franchise, “X:Men: Days of Future Past.”

Singer also teased that an interstellar setting might be introduced in the later movies of the franchise.

“Also I imagine – and this is the first time I’ve actually answered the question this way – but another thing that’s been introduced in the comics is a big alien, interstellar tenant within the X-Men universe that hasn’t been explored. And to me, that might be kind of fun because I’m a huge Star Wars and Star Trek fan, and exploring the X-Men universe and being able to utilise that would be exciting, visually,” Singer said.
