Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s latest release “Theri” is all set to shatter the total collection figures of the actor’s previous Tamil movies “Thuppakki” and “Kaththi” at the Kerala box office within five days of its theatrical run in the state.
While “Thuppakki” had collected Rs. 10.70 crore, Vijay’s “Kaththi” had earned approximately Rs. 10.50 crore at the Kerala box office. Now, the Atlee Kumar-directed film has grossed almost Rs. 9.88 crore, with the distributors’ share at Rs. 4.35 crore, within four days of its release in Kerala. “#Theri Gross 9.88 Cr & Share – 4.35 Cr From 4 Days Earth-Shattering Opening – Rights – 5.60cr [sic],” tweeted Malayalam Review. Therefore, the movie is expected to easily cross the collection records of “Thuppakki” and “Kaththi” in the coming days.
However, “Theri” is said to have witnessed a huge drop in collection on Monday, April 18, with only below-average occupancy during the morning and noon shows in multiplexes, and average response in single-screen theatres. The big-budget movie has been distributed in Kerala by Vijay Babu and Sandra Thomas’ production house Friday Film House in association with Carnival Motion Pictuyres, who had bagged the theatrical rights of the film for a whopping Rs 5.60 crore.
“Theri” witnessed tremendous response on its opening day on April 14, owing to the popularity of Vijay in the South Indian state. The film reportedly grossed Rs. 3.16 crore on the first day of its release in more than 180 screens in Kerala, becoming the second-highest opening-day-grosser in the state after Vikram’s “I” (Rs. 3.19 crore).
