After Season 1 met with critical acclaim from fans and critics, Syfy’s science fiction drama, “The Expanse,” has been confirmed for a second season, and David Howe, president of Syfy, is excited to see the story in next season.

Confirming the airing of Season 2, Howe said that the production work is rapidly progressing, according to Den of Geek.

“‘The Expanse’ is firing on all cylinders creatively, building a passionate fan base among viewers and critics alike, and delivering on Syfy’s promise of smart, provocative science fiction entertainment. We can’t wait to see where the story takes us in season two,” David said.

Based on the novel series by James S.A. Corey of the same name, “The Expanse” is based in a dystopian future 200 years ahead of current time. The story follows the adventures of Detective Miller (Thomas Jane) and Captain Holden (Steven Strait), searching for a young woman, Julie Mao (Florence Faivre), who is believed to withhold the secret behind mystery of the universe.

Miller firmly believes that Mao has solution to all the problems that the universe is facing and with her help, Earth can be made habitable again (in the series, Earth is no longer suitable for living organisms as all life forms have become extinct).

In the Season 1 finale titled “Leviathan Awakes,” the spy Kenzo from Tycho Station was brutally killed by a mysteriously evolved form of Protomolecule.

Miller found Mao’s corpse that was infected with Protomolecules and as the story of “The Expanse” Season 1 mostly emphasised on search of Mao, it definitely came as a blow to the audience.

There is a significant chance that Mao will be resurrected in the second season, as at the end of Season 1 finale, conspirators mistakenly activated a device that initiated the Protomolecule crystals in her body.

The main concern in Season 2 will be undoubtedly the fate of Miller and Holden, as they got separated at the end of Season 1, and whether Julie Mao will be resurrected or not.

Season 2 of “The Expanse” is expected to release in 2017 and will have 13 episodes.
