Legendary Tamil actor Kumarimuthu died Sunday, Feb.28 at a private hospital in Chennai. He was 77.
The veteran actor made his acting debut in “Ival Oru Seethai” in 1978. But the offers started pouring in only after 1982 “Nandu,” written and directed by J Mahendran. In his successful career, he was part of over 500 films in Kollywood and did a variety of roles. The Tamil audience liked him in comedy roles and he enjoyed a good fan following through his humorous acts.
“Oomai Vizhigal,” “Idhu Namma Aalu,” “Pudhu Vasantham,” “Idhayam,” “Sahadevan Mahadevan” and “Aanazhagan” were some of his popular films. His last movie was “Villu,” starring Ilayathalapathy Vijay and Nayantara in 2009.
In the past couple of years, he was quite busy in politics and was one of the celebrity faces of Karunanidhi-spearheaded Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). It may also be recalled that he had waged war against the functioning of the then administration of Nadigar Sangam (South Indian Artistes’ Association).
