Akkineni Nagarjuna’s “Soggade Chinni Nayana” (SCN) has done better collection than new Bollywood film “Mastizaade” at the US box office, but it has failed to cross the $1 million mark in the third weekend.
“Soggade Chinni Nayana” was released in 80 screens across the North America on 15 January and collected $656,247 at the US box office in the first week. With its screen count reduced to 53 in the second week, the movie witnessed a huge drop in business at $147,857 in the country. The film collected total $804,104 at the US box office in two weeks.
In its third week, new releases “Seethamma Andalu Ramayya Sitralu” and “Lacchimdeviki O Lekkundi” forced “Soggade Chinni Nayana” out of many cinema halls. The move managed to retain 19 screens and collected $23,814 at the US box office in the third weekend. Its 17-day US total stands at $827,918.
On Monday evening, Taran Adarsh took to his Twitter page to post the day-wise breakup of the movie’s third weekend collection. The leading Indian trade analyst tweeted, “Telugu film #SoggadeChinniNayana – USA – Week 3: Fri $ 5,708, Sat $ 13,349, Sun $ 4,757. Total: $ 827,918 [₹ 5.62 cr]. @RentrakIndia (sic)”
“Saala Khadoos” and “Mastizaade” have collected $62,920 and $19,923 from 58 and 38 screens, respectively, at the US box office in its opening weekend. Their per-screen-average collections stand at $1,084 and $524, respectively. When compared with these Bollywood movies, the performance of “Soggade Chinni Nayana” is far better in its third week.
Blue Sky has acquired the overseas theatrical rights of “Soggade Chinni Nayana” for Rs 65 lakh, and the film has fetched Rs 3.80 crore to the distributor. The movie has become the biggest solo success for Nagarjuna in the country. But its current pace of collection shows that it will not be able to cross the mark of $1 million at the US box office.
