Star Plus’ “Saath Nibhaana Saathiya” was supposed to take a generation leap, which would have seen lead actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee aka Gopi Bahu as a grandmother. But it appears like the makers have finally settled for a short leap after Devoleena expressed her reservations on ageing on-screen.
According to a report in India Forums, “Saath Nibhana Saathiya” will reportedly take a six-month leap. Currently, the show is revolving around Gaura (Vandana Pathak) having kidnapped her son Dharam (Amar Upadhyay) and faking his death. She also held Meera responsible for the death of Dharam and post-leap, the show will reportedly focus on this mysterious death.
Talking about the leap, Amar told Mid-Day that he is not aware of the upcoming track but will be happy to return if the script demands. “I am not clear on what is going to happen next. If they want me to come back, I’ll gladly do it, but I have no clue about it just yet,” she said.
It was reported that Devoleena didn’t want to age on-screen and her reluctance on playing a grandmother on the show had caused an obstruction for the scriptwriters to pen the story ahead. Unable to convince Devoleena, the makers were mulling over the idea of replacing Devoleena with Gia Manek, who initially played the role of Gopi Bahu. Gia had impressed the viewers with the portrayal of a kind and demure Bahu of the Modi family.
In fact, Gia had also said that if things work out between her and the makers, she would be happy to join the cast again. “I will cross the bridge when I come to it. Right now, I am not in a position to comment. I will talk when I sign the dotted line. I would certainly like to do something like ‘Saath Nibhaana Saathiya.’ It has been one of the best shows I have done so far and if things work out I will be more than happy to come on board. But at the moment, I would like to refrain from talking about it,” Gia had told Asian Age.
