Akshay Kumar paints a grim picture in the first poster of his next “Rustom,” a thriller set in the 50s and loosely based on Kawas Manekshaw Nanavati, a naval officer, who shot his wife’s lover.
“3 shots that shocked the nation and changed his life! Find out what happened with #Rustom this August 12, 2016,” Akshay tweeted. Mysterious, dark and beautiful, the poster, which also features Ileana D’Cruz, reveals the crux of the story but keeps the intrigue alive. The sepia tone adds to the charm of the era the film is set in.
Helmed by Tinu Desai and scheduled for an Aug. 12 release, the film will go head to head with Hrithik Roshan’s “Mohenjo Daro” at the box office. And if recent reports are anything to go by, it may clash with Aamir Khan’s “Dangal” as well.
Akshay seems to be unfazed by the competition. He has been working round-the-clock honouring his professional commitments and making sure that his work turns out okay and appreciated like the last one, “Airlift.”
For “Rustom,” he has a completely different look on (which is evident in the first-look photo and poster) that goes with the vibe of the 50s. “It reflects the flared pants, charcoal ties and cardigans of the era. He will also use prosthetics for his role,” a source told Mumbai Mirror last month.
Akshay and Ileana have already shot portions at Mumbai studio and Esha Gupta will join them soon. “It will also be shot in the UK and parts of Europe. The film will feature a supporting cast of actors from London, inspired by characters from history,” added the insider.
