British experimental/alternative rock band Radiohead recently announced a world tour. The band will start touring with a show at Amsterdam May 20, 2016, and will go on to play a series of concerts in cities like Paris, London, Barcelona, New York City, Los Angeles, Tokyo and Berlin. The tour will end with a concert in Mexico City Oct. 4, 2016. Check out the full schedule here.

Now, can this announcement by the band imply that a new album is on the cards? Yes, that is definitely a possibility. Here’s why.

It is common knowledge that Radiohead is currently working on their ninth studio album. A band with the stature of Radiohead does not generally announce a world tour all of a sudden unless it has something new to offer and promote, which in this case would be an upcoming album. Moreover, the band has not released a studio album since 2011’s “King of Limbs.” They have also not performed live since their world tour in 2012.

Last year, the band’s guitarist Jonny Greenwood and drummer Philip Selway let slip to the media that September 2015 would be packed with recording schedules. When asked again in October, Greenwood rubbished reports that the album was done, but did admit a lot of progress had been made.

So, this can very well imply a new release from the band. But, till an official announcement is made, we can do nothing but speculate.

The band did release a new song last Christmas in the form of “Spectre”, which they had composed for the eponymous James Bond movie, but was not used by the filmmakers. Going by the way the track sounds, we can very well expect to see a new side of Radiohead in their next album.
