Nannaku Prematho controversial poster

The makers of Junior NTR’s “Nannaku Prematho” have replaced the posters with offending background and offered an unconditional apology to the Muslim community for hurting its sentiments.

In a statement released to the media, BVSN Prasad, who has produced “Nannaku Prematho”, has admitted the backdrop of the controversial poster was offending and said it has been replaced. Besides offering an apology, he said it was an accidental mistake and his team never intended to hurt anbody.

“It has come to our notice that some members of a religious community have been offended by a background image used in a song poster of ‘Nannaku Prematho’. We respect the religious sentiments of the community and have replaced the image with a new one. The offending background has also been removed from the film,” reads the statement from the producer.

“We offer an unconditional apology to the members of the community for any offence caused to religious sentiments because of the background image. We have never been against any community, nor do we bear any ill will towards any community. We believe every community has the right to live with dignity, honour, and freedom. The poster design was an accident and it was not intended as an act of malice,” he said in the statement.

Junior NTR was seen shaking a leg with actress Rakul Preet Singh in a poster of “Nannaku Prematho” that featured religious verses in Urdu in the background. Some people from the Muslim community were upset over the poster and had held a protest march from Jubilee Hills to the regional office of Central Board of Film Certification in Hyderabad on Saturday.

Khaja Tanveer Ahmed had lodged a complaint with the State Minorities Commission of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in this regard. In his complaint, he had claimed the heroine in an obscene posture against the backdrop of the religious verses had hurt the sentiments of his community.

The commission had issued show-cause notices to the Hyderabad police commissioner and the regional office of Central Board of Film Certification. It had also requested registration of a criminal case against the team of “Nannaku Prematho”.
