Nani’s “Krishna Gadi Veera Prema Gadha” (KVPG) has made a decent collection at the US box office in the second weekend, but the movie will not be able to surpass the $1-million mark in its lifetime there.
Amidst huge hype, promotion and expectations, “Krishna Gadi Veera Prema Gadha” was released Feb. 12 in over 120 cinema halls across North America. It got good opening response and did decent business on the following days. The film collected $580,892 at the US box office in the first week.
Trade analysts in T-Town predicted the release of “Krishnashtami” would affect the collection of “Krishna Gadi Veera Prema Gadha” by forcing it out of many theatres in its second week. As predicted, distributors withdrew the movie from almost two-thirds of its theatres. The film managed to hold 47 screens in the country in its second week.
But “Krishna Gadi Veera Prema Gadha” registered occupancy the remaining screens on its second Friday. It showed almost 100 percent growth Saturday, but its business dropped over 50 percent Sunday. The Nani-starrer collected $121,396 at the US box office in its second weekend.
“Krishna Gadi Veera Prema Gadha” has collected $702,288 at the US box office in 10 days. Leading Indian film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted: “Telugu film #KrishnagaadiVeeraPremaGaadha USA – Wk 2: Fri $ 31,151, Sat $ 60,618, Sun $ 29,627. Total: $ 702,288 [₹ 4.82 cr] #KVPG @Rentrak (sic)”
Nani’s previous outing, “Bhale Bhale Magadivoy”, had collected $1,427,092 at the US box office in its lifetime. It was the third-highest-grossing Telugu movie of all time there. Trade analysts had predicted his latest outing might not break that record, but it would at least cross the $1-million mark. However, its current pace of collection shows the movie will not be able to achieve that feat.
