Tamil movie “Kanithan” has got a good opening at the box office. The film, released Friday, Feb. 26, has garnered decent reviews from the audience and critics.
Journalist Sreedhar Pillai announced the news on Twitter and wrote: “Met #KalaipuliDhanu y’day at #Thozha audio launch. He is happy that his #Kanithan has taken a good opening. (sic)” Now, the makers are planning to remake the film in Telugu, and details on that are expected to be out in the coming days.
Trade tracker Kannan said “Kanithan” has performed better than the other new release, “Aarathu Sinam.” He tweeted: “#Kanithan has taken better opening & getting decent reviews too whereas #AaraathuSinam both opening & reports just average. #Feb26. (sic)”
“Kanithan” released in about 175 screens in Tamil Nadu, but did not see the light of the day in many theatres in the Chengalpet region, which is a key collection centre for Kollywood films, due to the stand-off between the producer and the exhibitors’ association. Nonetheless, the Kollywood flick has managed to perform well on its release day, and the industry expects it to end up doing decent business in its opening weekend.
The movie has clashed with “Aarathu Sinam,” which was released in over 200 screens in Tamil Nadu. “Kanithan” is also competing against previous-week releases like “Miruthan” and “Sethupathi,” which have got positive reviews and are doing well at the box office.
Tamil film stars Atharvaa and Catherine Tresa are in the lead in “Kanithan”. TN Santhosh has written and directed the movie, which has been bankrolled by leading producer Kalaipuli S Dhanu.
“Kanithan” revolves around a fake educational certificate scam. The subject of the story and the performance of Atharvaa have been appreciated by the viewers.
