Prithviraj Sukumaran’s “Ennu Ninte Moideen” changed the actor’s career graph by becoming his first solo blockbuster in a career spanning 13 years. After making many records at the Kerala box office, the romantic entertainer has created yet another history by breaking the satellite rights records of Mohanlal’s “Drishyam” and Nivin Pauly’s blockbuster “Premam”.

Popular Malayalam entertainment channel Asianet is said to have bagged the satellite rights of the RS Vimal directorial for a whopping amount of Rs 6.87 crore breaking the record of “Drishyam”, which was bought by the channel for Rs 6.5 crore. “Premam” satellite rights was also bagged by Asianet for Rs 6 crore and Mammootty starrer “Pathemari” is also said to have been bought for Rs 6 crore by Surya TV.

“Ennu Ninte Moideen” did tremendous business at the box office in India and abroad, opening to positive reviews from audience and critics alike. The movie, made on a budget of Rs 12 crore by Suresh Raj, Binoy Shankarath and Ragy Thomas under the banner of Newton Movies, has become one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films.

The movie also bagged many awards during the recently concluded International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Utsavam show, including the Best Picture, Best Actor (Prithviraj Sukumaran), Best Actress (Parvathy), Best Supporting Female Role (Lena) and Best Female Singer (Shreya Ghoshal).

Set in the 1960s and 70s in Mukkam, Kerala, “Ennu Ninte Moideen” narrates the real life tragic love story of BP Moideen and Kanchanamala. While Moideen belonged to a renowned Muslim family, Kanchanamala is the daughter of a Hindu Thiyya aristocratic landlord. The two families objected their marriage and Kanchana was kept under house arrest for almost 22 years till the death of Moideen, who drowned in a boat mishap in Iruvazhinjippuzha river in 1982. Since then, Kanchana has been living as “a widow of a bachelor” and as a social activist at BP Moideen Seva Mandir supporting the weaker sections of the society.
