The negotiations between Lyca Productions and Kalaipuli S Dhanu are still on, and the industry hopes that they seal the deal, as it will only help the Tamil movie to get a massive release worldwide. Trade tracker Kannan tweets, “#Lyca Productions to buy theatrical rights of @actorvijay’s #Theri. Huge release worldwide guaranteed! @Atlee_dir. (sic)”
Lyca Productions had ventured into Kollywood with Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s blockbuster “Kaththi” in 2014. But it was not a bed of roses for Subaskaran Allirajah, as he was not welcomed by the Tamil groups. It was alleged that the production house had links with former Sri Lankan President Mahindra Rajapaksa, who was accused of massacring innocent Tamil civilians in his war against the LTTE in the island nation a couple of years ago.
Hence, it had become a political issue till the makers were forced to run from pillar to post to convince various protesting groups that the production house had no links with Rajapaksa, and they were successful in it. In the end, “Kaththi” had a trouble-free release and became one of the biggest hits of Kollywood.
Now, Lyca Productions is producing Rajinikanth starrer “Endhiran 2” aka “2.0,” which is being produced with a budget of Rs 350 crore, the highest-ever in the Indian film history. GV Prakash Kumar’s “Enakku Innoru Per Irukku” and “Yeman” are its other projects.
Coming back to “Theri,” it is an action-thriller in which Vijay plays the role of a cop. Samantha and Amy Jackson are the female leads in the film, which is written and directed by Atlee Kumar. The Tamil film will hit the screens on April14.
