It is not every day that distributors face losses from Shah Rukh Khan’s movies. So when his latest movie “Dilwale” failed to earn the expected amount at the box office, Shah Rukh decided to return 50 percent of the money to the distributors.

“Dilwale”, starring Shah Rukh and Kajol, was riding high on buzz before its release, which helped the film to fetch a good deal with its theatrical rights.

But the film failed to translate the high buzz into decent numbers at the domestic box office, due to which distributors have faced losses.

However, Shah Rukh is said to have come to their rescue and has returned 50 percent of the loss incurred by the distributors.

“Shah Rukh Khan has returned the money to distributors, as he doesn’t want them to face loss,” a source close to SRK told International Business Times, India.

Trade analyst Komal Nahata also confirmed the reports and called Shah Rukh a “considerate producer”.

“@iamsrk does what few wud do. Refunds 50% of the loss of distributors of his Dilwale. That’s what u call a considerate producer!” Nahata tweeted.

Shah Rukh’s “Dilwale” turned out to be a big success at the worldwide box office office, but the domestic collection alone is disappointing. The film earned Rs 148 crore net income from the domestic box office, while the overseas earnings is Rs 175.71 crore.

Shah Rukh too said that he is disappointed with the domestic box office earnings, but happy that the film has done well overseas.

“I don’t think the film has done as well as it should have. I am personally disappointed with that,” Shah Rukh told reporters, according to Press Trust of India.

“To be honest, it has perhaps not done as well in India as I would like it to do. But overseas it has done very well in a lot of countries like Germany, Austria. It is quite thrilling that Indian films are reaching far and wide. There is a lot of business opportunities,” he added.
