Jon Favreau’s 3D live-action computer animated film “The Jungle Book” is unstoppable at the Indian box office. Despite running in its fourth week, the film accumulated Rs. 10.47 crore in its fourth weekend from the Indian markets.
India is among the top four highest performing markets internationally for “The Jungle Book.” The film, which features 12-year-old Neel Sethi as Mowgli, has minted Rs. 164.08 crore in its 24 day-run. “The Jungle Book” continued to show decent growth in its weekend collection.

Adarsh said that the collection growth of “The Jungle Book” in its fourth week is amazing. “If THIS is not ASTONISHING, what is? #TheJungleBook day-wise growth in biz… Week 4… Sun to Sat: 46.18% Sat to Fri: 98.31% India biz,” he tweeted the day-wise growth percentage.
According to an industry insider, production house Disney had a good strategy of localising the content.
“Of course, a story like ‘The Jungle Book’ lends itself very well to localisation, but to get the voice cast the studio did and the way the film was marketed and the fact that it released in India before anywhere in the world, has definitely helped,” Business Standard quoted a film studio executive as saying.
“In the past, films like ‘Avatar,’ ‘Life of Pi’ and ‘Slumdog Millionaire,’ all with strong Indian references, have done well in the country. But Disney’s treatment of The Jungle Book has set it apart. Also, the number audiences opting to watch Hollywood films has increased in the past couple of years, even if it’s the Hindi or regional dubs that are more popular,” another executive told the website.
